Love changes people. It is that one emotion that can set people free. Most people seek love for validation of their identity, granting permission for them to be what they truly were meant to be. Love can heal wounds and set people free from self-doubt. In order to survive we need love.

Yet, in many of our churches and our communities, expressing feelings of love and care for one another is highly frowned upon. We walk into worship and barely want to shake each other’s hand during the fellowship hour. Many of us don’t even acknowledge someone’s presence by saying hello when they walk past us.

Here in this scripture meditation today, we are called to rise above what is considered normal. In society, it is normal to not express love, sympathy or even patience for people who need it. While it is easy to love someone easy to love, it is very difficult to love and care for someone who doesn’t look, smell, walk or dress like you.

The apostle Paul reminds us that as Christians, we should repay evil with a blessing and not vengeance. When someone wrongs us, we must have radical love and love them beyond their current expression of self. Love them where they are so they may get where they need to be.

Pray: God of Love, Thank you for loving me from the beginning. Grant me the power to extend that love to others Even when it’s hard to do! In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
