Be Whole, Be Holy

by Min. Andre Gilford

As a child, the world is our oyster. We touch, we feel, we see everything. Nothing is out of our reach. We go around the world searching. Discovering. Seeking. Then, finding. Every moment of our young lives is spent trying to learn something new. We are open to the world of possibilities and vulnerable to the elements, even those that are not good for us. That unrestricted vulnerability made us victims of the pain of someone failures that was conveyed to us . . . that we are nothing; that we do not have what it takes; that we will not succeed.

That is a lie.

We are made in the very image of God with all of God’s divine attributes: God’s intelligence, God’s beauty, God’s love. Though we fall in our journey to finding God and discovering who we are, we are not defeated. We were made for this long, arduous journey, purposed with all of the resources inside and around us for us to be our best selves. Though we struggle, we must not give up. Time is of the essence. God is waiting for us to touch the hem of God’s garment and to be made whole . . . wholly our best . . .holy.

God of the weary years,
You picked me up when I fell
And placed me back on my feet
I look to you for direction in this journey of life
Lead me
Guide me
Mold me
Shape me
In the name of the Christ,
